Cogiendo palos

A figure in a red raincoat carries a kitchen chair into worked land and sits with its back to us. We don't look at the person; we look with them. Where Zonzo began.

A figure in a red raincoat sits on a wooden chair at the end of a jetty, facing a lough

I · The jetty

The figure seated in the middle of the jetty, facing the lough The figure in the red raincoat, seen from behind, seated before the water The figure seated in a green field under a white sky
The seated figure, tiny at the end of a beech avenue

The chair is a domestic object carried into open land — the same gesture as Zonzo's archive hidden in a Maria biscuit.

II · The avenue
The figure sits between the rails of a narrow-gauge bog railway The figure sits in a cut-over peat field striped with tyre tracks
III · The bog railway IV · The peat cutting

Rails and peat cuttings are worked land: landscape as labour. The red hood is the one fixed point that lets every place be measured against the same body.

The figure sits in a wide meadow with hedges behind

V · The field

The wooden chair alone on the jetty, facing the water

The seat is yours.

VI · The empty chair
