Zonzo
“Walking, in many cases, can replace designing: it is the act that lets us name places and draw our own geography.”
Francesco Careri, Walkscapes

An archive of the implicit life of a territory, drawn as a map from its people's stories rather than from its roads.
“Andare a zonzo” is Italian for wandering with no aim. Zonzo takes it as method: the route is decided by whoever you meet. Neighbours become characters of their own story, and their routines, opinions and memories make a non-figurative map of the place.
It is an archive without archons. No institution decides what counts as memory; the people who live there keep it. Non-fiction is the only rule — a habitable documentary hidden inside a Maria biscuit, and a line drawn on paper.
The 2017 capsules record the infra-ordinary: making charcoal, a jug, a thistle, the hillside. Things so common that nobody films them.
